Used Toyota Corolla for Sale Near Me - Autotrader (2024)

Over its long reign, the Toyota Corolla continuously provides an economical way to get around, with little to worry about regarding reliability, resale, and cost to own. Although the Corolla has grown over the decades, including multiple variations such as a coupe, a hatchback, a wagon, and even an SUV, most people know it as a four-door sedan, so that’s what we’ll concentrate on here. The late model version will bring top dollar because the Corolla holds its value so well. However, the Corolla is one of the few cars you can feel confident buying with a few more years under its belt and still have a reliable, safe, and fuel-efficient car.

Toyota Corolla (12th Generation: 2020 - Current)

Key Improvements: The current Corolla sedan is visually more modern than the 11th-generation Corolla, although the two share roughly the same dimensions, inside and out. The big differences between the two generations start under the hood, where buyers have a choice between two 4-cylinder engines (one rated at 139 horsepower and the other at 169) and a hybrid engine that gets a combined EPA fuel economy rating of 52 mpg. The non-hybrid engines get between 32-34 mpg depending on the engine and transmission. The Corolla’s standard Safety Sense-P driver-assist suite expands to include traffic sign recognition, lane-tracing assist, and adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go feature. On the entertainment front, Apple CarPlay arrives, with Android Auto eventually making its way into the Corolla (see Other Changes section). A JBL audio system is also available.

Model Updates: Android Auto and rear cross-traffic alert finally join the 2021 party. The 2023 Corolla gets a modest exterior refresh, and the 139-hp 1.8-liter engine and 6-speed manual option are dropped from the lineup.

Toyota Corolla (11th Generation: 2014 - 2019)

Key Improvements: The 11th-generation Corolla shares much with the 10th, but mainly under the skin. The two have the same 4-cylinder engine, although the newer Corolla replaces the previous 4-speed automatic with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Combined fuel economy ratings fluctuate between 30 and 34 mpg, depending on the model and transmission. There's more rear-seat legroom in the 11th-generation car thanks to a longer wheelbase. While subjective, styling is more modern, as is the interior layout. There's a tad more trunk space, but a smaller opening makes it difficult to take full advantage. You'll have to look elsewhere if you're an Apple CarPlay or Android Auto fan. However, over the years, the Toyota Entune system does feature Bluetooth streaming, iPod integration, and a CD player.

Model Updates: For 2017, Toyota's Safety Sense-P comes standard, adding adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and avoidance, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.

Toyota Corolla (10th Generation: 2009 - 2013)

Key Improvements: Longer, lower, and wider than the ninth-generation Corolla, the 10th-generation attempts to add more style and performance. The sporty XRS trim features a 158-horsepower 2.4-liter engine, a significant improvement over the standard 138-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, which itself provides 12 more ponies than the same engine in the ninth-generation Corolla. Standard features previously optional or unavailable include satellite radio, side-curtain airbags, and front-seat side-impact airbags. New features include JBL audio and navigation.

Model Updates: The 2010 Corolla gains standard traction and stability control. For 2011, the Corolla gets revised styling and drops the XRS and XLE trims. For 2012, the base L and LE trims get more standard equipment and an available audio unit with Bluetooth.

Toyota Corolla (9th Generation: 2003 - 2008)

This is the era when the Corolla grew from a subcompact to a compact car, seemingly treading on Camry territory and even sharing the larger sedan’s 2.4-liter engine.

Toyota Corolla (8th Generation: 1998 - 2002)

A slightly fresher version of the seventh-generation Corolla, these are some of the car’s blandest years. The engines are fuel-efficient but short on power, and the interiors are just OK.

Toyota Corolla (7th Generation: 1993 - 1997)

The Corolla of the 1980s officially dies with this generation. Say goodbye to fun features or sporty iterations and hello to an unassuming sedan that is easy on gas, very reliable, and tops the sale charts to become one of the world's best-selling automobiles.

Toyota Corolla (6th Generation: 1988 - 1992)

The last of the “fun” Corolla years, this generation includes a sport GT-S coupe with a 16V engine, models with fully independent suspensions, and lots of cool interior upgrades. There’s even an AWD option for the sedan.

Toyota Corolla (5th Generation: 1984 - 1987)

The last generation to offer both front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive (GT-S), this generation saw the Corolla explode into the mainstream, offering buyers everything from basic transportation to powerful sporty coupes with interiors and features unlike any domestic subcompact.

Toyota Corolla (4th Generation: 1979 - 1983)

An economy box with better engine and suspension technology than the previous Corolla, this generation brought a boxy and bold look to the brand, making it very popular with young buyers.

Toyota Corolla (3rd Generation: 1975 - 1978)

More models arrive wearing the Corolla name, including a two-door liftback and a fastback coupe. The Corolla's impressive fuel economy helped it rocket to record sales, aided by a series of fuel shortages throughout the 1970s.

Toyota Corolla (2nd Generation: 1971 - 1974)

Building on the original's success, the second-generation Corolla adds more legroom, an automatic transmission, and a more powerful engine.

Toyota Corolla (1st Generation: 1969 - 1970)

Although Toyota began production in 1966, the Corolla didn't arrive in the US until 1969. The first-generation car couldn't have been more straightforward, with a modest 60 hp engine, a manual transmission, and not much else in the way of bells and whistles.
