Ocular surface redness is an essential biomarker to detect ocular surface diseases. We aim to support clinicians in this time-consuming and often subjective task by determining a redness score from images.Philipp O. from Private Universität für Gesundheitswissenschaften, Medizinische Informatik und Technik will present an interesting abstract titled "Baseline pipeline for automated eye redness extraction with relation to clinical grading" next Tuesday, 12th of March, 10:15 CET at the German Conference on Medical Image Computing in Nürnberg.Standardised data for this study was collected with OCCYO's imaging system.Abstract: https://lnkd.in/dhiuZrhTEvent: https://lnkd.in/df5EXAh9#medtechinnovation #digitalhealth #medicalimaging #automatedgrading

I am delighted to announce the publication of ‘Approaches for Science Illustration and Communication’, Volume 4 in the Biomedical Visualization series by Professor Paul M. Rea and edited by me. Read Chapter 7 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/eRW2RTdJChapter 7, ‘Diabetes Year One, Random Fluctuations, and Mental Goblins: Auto-Ethnographic Pathographies and Medical Comics’ by Tony Pickering, centres around three comics produced as a result of being diagnosed with illness. Using the mechanics and potential of the comics medium within the growing field of graphic medicine, this chapter discusses the ways in which the creation and reception of ‘pathographies’ can help consider notions of patient agency—the ways in which being a patient is interpolated within individual identity, and cement patient understanding.

Congratulations to Dr. Jagendra Singh (Associate Professor #scsetbennett) and Dr. Prabhishek Singh (Assistant Professor, #scsetbennett) for acceptance of the #research paper, “Reviewing the Impact of Machine Learning on Disease Diagnosis and Prognosis: A Comprehensive Analysis” for #publication in The Open Pain Journal, Bentham Open. The objective of this study was to thoroughly analyze and evaluate the efficacy of machine learning algorithms in medical diagnostics, focusing on their application in interpreting illness images and patient data. The goal was to ascertain the algorithms' accuracy in disease diagnosis and prognosis, aiming to demonstrate their potential in revolutionizing healthcare through improved diagnostic precision and early disease detection. A systematic approach has been used in this study to evaluate machine learning algorithms' effectiveness in diagnosing diseases from medical images and data. It involved selecting pertinent datasets, applying and comparing models, like SVM and K-nearest neighbors, and assessing their diagnostic accuracy and performance, aiming to identify the most effective methodologies in medical diagnostics.#bennettuniversity #FacultyatBU#MedicalDiagnostics #MachineLearning#illness #patientdata #DiseaseDiagnosis #diseasedetection #svm #knn

【Frequentist and Bayesian Sample Size Determination for Single-Arm Clinical Trials Based on a Binary Response Variable: A Shiny App to Implement Exact Methods】Full article: https://lnkd.in/gHEnyy2t (Authored by Susanna Gentile and Valeria Sambucini, from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy.)Sample Size Determination (#SSD) is an essential step in the design of a research study, especially in clinical trials. This paper considers the problem of SSD based on power analysis when the focus is on single-arm studies based on a single #binomial_proportion and presents an interactive and used-friendly Shiny application to obtain the optimal sample size according to the criteria based on the two-priors approach.

#LTSS2023Day 2 - SummaryThe theme of the day: The Power of Integration: Building a Connected Laboratory has illuminated the transformative potential of unity and innovation within the laboratory landscape. Esther Abels's presentation on Digital Pathology and how it Will Enhance Lab Medicine guided us through the intricate realm of Lab Medicine and Digital Pathology. Her vision of a systemic approach, guided by regulatory science, has shown us the key to unlocking accelerated precision medicine. Esther's perspectives remind us that unity and connectivity are the bedrock of progress in lab medicine.Terry van Jaarsveld's exploration of POCT: The Way Forward Using EmergingTechnologies and Intelligent Connectivity has underscored the significance of Point of Care Testing (POCT) in patient care. Her emphasis on constant improvement, standardization, and the strategic integration of emerging technologies within POCT processes resonates deeply, underscoring the role POCT plays in enhancing patient outcomes. And finally,Steve Box and Karim Premji's presentation on Lab Networks for Agnostic Connectivity, has thrown light on the intricate web of laboratory information system (LIS) interfacing. They highlighted the possibilities around the concept of a Lab Network as a digital enabler and how it opens doors to innovative solutions for seamless connectivity. This concept promises to redefine the exchange of information in the laboratory realm. We look forward to seeing you on the last day of our seasonal school tomorrow!#digitaltransformation#pointofcaretesting #lis #lims #laboratoryprofessionals#laboratory#digitalpathology#integration #connectivity #networks X-Lab - LIS-agnostic lab interoperability

Interesting preprint study assessing cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) parameters in CAD patients after MI. Presence of invasively measured intravascular resistance (IMR) was the only independent predictor of ST depression and O2-pulse flatenning on CPET, suggesting that patients with coronary microvascular dysfunction had signicant noninvasively detectable myocardial ischemia. CPET is accurate at detecting microvascular ischemia that is associated with reduced Peak VO2 and Peak O2-pulse (stroke volume): https://lnkd.in/eZ6tsDhc #CPET #CAD #CMD #PCI #mettest #INOCA
